A melamine dry erase board is probably the most common type of dry erase board found in many office supply stores. The melamine material is the original method of making a white board.
Melamine is basically paper with resin infused, and then placed over a pressed piece of wood. It’s very inexpensive to make; therefore, most of the inexpensive, small whiteboards you find are made of this material.
However, a melamine dry erase board has its drawbacks. It becomes hard to clean after a while, with the marks just not coming off. You cannot use a permanent marker with it, as this will not come off.
Now, the type of material used for better quality dry erase boards is porcelain. However, this comes with an increase in price. But these tend to last longer without ghosting.
You can resurface an existing dry erase board by sanding it, then painting it with whiteboard paint. But if you are going with a less expensive board, it may cost you less just to buy a new one.
